The best motorcycle routes in Tenerife

Tenerife is much more than a sun and beach destination. Thanks to its wonderful climate, of eternal spring, the Canary Island offers a multitude of plans for each person and, of course, some of the best routes for lovers of two wheels. For this reason, every year there are more bikers who decide to do one of the many motorcycle routes on the island of Tenerife. Remember that if you want to rent a motorcycle, at Más que Motos Tenerife we have the best and most varied models.

In Tenerife, motorcycle fans can find everything they want, from perfect and well paved highways, winding high mountain roads and dirt roads for the more adventurous. In addition, gasoline is much cheaper than in the rest of Spain and in Europe. All this combined with magnificent views and the possibility of sightseeing while we enjoy riding our motorcycle. Don’t forget your swimsuit and sunscreen.

Road to La Laguna

Let’s say you land at Los Rodeos, the Tenerife North airport. Very close to there is La Laguna, one of our favorite cities in the Canary Islands. Its colonial layout of palaces with wooden balconies served as inspiration after the conquest of America from the cities that were founded on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, such as Cartagena de Indias, in Colombia. Convents, churches, museums, the tomb of a pirate, bars with a university atmosphere, in La Laguna you will find a welcoming city, perfect for leaving the motorcycle and exploring it on foot.

Anaga Route

Laurisilva forests are known as the oldest forests on the planet, an ecological stronghold that managed to survive the last glaciation in very specific points on Earth and Tenerife is perhaps the most representative of them. To get there you have to take a winding road that passes through the capital of the island, Santa Cruz. Driving will take us into a dreamlike landscape of giant ferns, fog, mist and thick vegetation. From the Pico del Inglés the views are impressive. After a technical stop in the charming town of Taganana, our route descends steeply along a beautiful road to the sea, where there is the possibility of diving into the ocean at the majestic Benijo beach or in the natural pools at Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo.

The Northern Route

Leaving the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the slopes of Teide on the other. Traveling the TF5 road on a motorcycle is one of the most notable itineraries in Tenerife. The first stop will take us to La Orotava, a town declared a Historic-Artistic Site full of hermitages and churches and stately homes in colonial style, such as the Casa de los Balcones or the municipal palace. Then we will continue the route to the town of Icod de los Vinos and its legendary tree called the Drago Milenario. Just 3 kilometers from Icod is the Cueva del Viento, the fifth longest volcanic tube in the world, the other four are located in the Hawaiian archipelago, in the Pacific. We continue touring the famous TF5, between banana plantations, to Garachico, the old capital of the island and where we can rest and cool off in its wonderful natural pools. The road continues towards the westernmost point of the island, Punta de Teno, through a dizzying road that advances between cliffs and tunnels, a delight for the most adventurous bikers. From there we can see the neighboring Island of La Gomera.

Southwest route

Our motorcycle routes through Tenerife now take us to another of the wildest areas of the island. Santiago del Teide is a small inland municipality that connects with Buenavista del Norte through a winding road, recommended only for advanced bikers. A zigzagging road through the interior of the enormous cliffs of Los Gigantes leads us to Masca. You can go down the canyon on foot and return to the town of Los Gigantes to admire the majesty of the cliffs, unique in Europe. There you can eat and take a swim in the sea.

Teide Route

No motorcycle visit to Tenerife will be complete if we do not climb to the roof of Spain and the third highest volcano in the world on our motorcycle. There are several routes, but we recommend the one to La Esperanza, through a well-paved and very fun road, with impressive views, viewpoints, forests and where we can notice the change of landscape as we carry out the ascent. From the top you can see a dreamlike landscape, see other islands and walk through areas that transport us to the Moon.

We leave for another occasion the routes on dirt roads, which are many and varied, for all levels. Today we have focused on the roads, which is the best way to discover the natural and artistic treasures of the island of Tenerife combined with our great passion, the motorcycle.
